New aquatic centre site options, proposed orbital road before council meeting

A recommendation before Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s September 18 meeting proposes to reconfirm Macquarie Park as the preferred site of a new aquatic centre.
The recommendation also proposes to move ahead with the detailed design and approvals including development of a strategic concept design.
The community had its say on six possible sites – Macquarie Park (Gordon Street), Dixie Park (Aston Street), Findlay Park (Findlay Avenue), Upper Oxley Oval (Pacific Drive), Thrumster Sporting Complex (College Drive) and Wayne Richards Park (Koala Street).
The community consultation also included an alternate option to upgrade the Port Macquarie Olympic Pool site in Gordon Street.
The consultation yielded 880 survey responses and 57 written submissions.
The site selection evaluation process included the community feedback and the outcomes of a site selection workshop.
The workshop involved representatives across council divisions to identify and consider further planning considerations for each option.
The Port Macquarie pool, built in 1966, has a deteriorating structure and no longer meets the fast-growing community’s needs.
