What is the best way to book a flight and car rental?
I’m planning a trip from Los Angeles, CA to San Antonio, TX and I want to make sure I get the best price for airfare and car rental. I will be traveling in early November. I have been shopping around on some internet travel planning sites and it’s so overwhelming. I don’t know what are the best times to fly or anything.
My husband and I always fly Continental, and we find that the best time to fly is the last flight out and the last flight coming back. (We live in NJ and fly in/out of Newark.) The last flights in and out are usually pretty empty, so we have a great chance of getting a free upgrade plus better service.
If you book everything together, you save a little money. I would recommend Orbitz.com. We use it a lot and its very reliable. The best way to get the cheapest rental car rate is to pick up and drop off at the same location. Also, some times renting it out for a whole week is actually cheaper than renting it for just a day or two, so I would suggest going on Hertz.com or Avis.com and playing around with the dates.

southwest should be your cheapest airline, then try dollar rental (economy cars). join any clubs you need to get upgrades/discounts. also, try calling the airlines and ask for recommendations for on-line sales.
