You will save money simply buying a cheap vehicle and insuring it. Sell it when you are almost done with whatever you are doing and rent a vehicle for the last few days. Your original coverage should extend to the rental. Then it's just a matter of canceling the policy afterward.

Renting a car for that amount of time is also very expensive. But if you are going to rent, you don't have much of a choice. Only the insurance from the agency will cover the car you are renting.

You can buy "operator" liability insurance policy from several companies who sells them. But this only makes you "legal" to drive, it will not cover the vehicle you are renting.
This probably save you money,because you only need to buy
"physical damage" coverage from the car rental company, instead of "full coverage".

Enterprise has long term car rentals, and they’re the cheapest in my area anyways.
