How can I get a cheap rental car in San Francisco without using the airport rental agency?

Posted on January 3rd, 2010 by admin in car rental australia | 6 Comments »

We are traveling to San Fransisco, and I was curious if I should take a taxi to an off-site car rental, or if there was a better option than the expensive airport rental.

Usually yes, but be sure to make sure that you wont have a mileage restriction

rent in a neighoborhood where the locals rent, not where the major hotels are.

Call Enterprise as a good starting point for the best rates.

Also much of SF is accessible by public trransportation, in the city the car is a hindrance, you only need it for the days you are going to the out lying areas like wine country

The offsite car rental agencies have free shuttles from SFO.

Take the BART downtown to your hotel. There are lots of car rental companies downtown that are cheaper than the airport.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. just go here: http://bookme.com/cars.php and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
