How much deposit does a car hire company take on your credit card when you hire a car?

Will be hiring a car in Orlando, FL

I am going to guess you are not from the US since you said hire a car instead of rent a car. Here hiring a car would mean getting a driver and car to take you somewhere. Renting a car would mean you are getting a car to drive yourself.
Nothing should be charged to your credit card till the car is handed back in. Please check out web site below.
Make sure to go with a name brand rental company.
Check you own insurance policy. My car insurance covers me driving a rental car. You need to be 25 to drive a rental car.

It will depend on the company. Some places like Dollar require either $250 saved or if it will end up being more than that, the final amount & 10% more

It depends on the length of rental, type of car, etc. If it is a true credit card, they often will just validate the card with a small hold. For a debit card, if accepted, it could be the cost of the entire expected rental, and is usually at least $400 if that total is higher.

Everyone else is correct – holds vary from company to company. Many of the car rental companies require a $500 guarantee or hold on your credit card. Payment is paid at the end of your trip, when you return the car. Be sure you bring a credit card. None of the car rental companies in Orlando will accept a debit card. We also have some crazy drivers down here, so you may want to purchase insurance.

    Have fun!
