Car Hire without a credit card in France?

I am going to France soon and I want to hire a car at Nice airport but I do not have a credit card, nor do I want one. I have a debit card but all the car hire companies say that they will not accept a debit card and you must have a credit card. Does anyone know of a way out of this problem?

Not without a valid credit card.Debit can be emptied while using the car so ? No other way..

   hi, Wn france last year but booked car with my brothers card .when booking just put both first names on form. They only really look at surnames when collecting car

   You must have a card.

   I use my Visa debit card with no problems.
